The Creation of FlowCARE’s Catheter Cabinets
Location: St. Louis, Illinois
Project-at-a-Glance:
A cabinet isn’t just a cabinet in the healthcare world. It has to maximize space, it has to be designed for the people who will use it the most, and it has to be able to be easily cleaned and sterilized. Our storage solutions are created with this in mind.
Take the journey with us to learn more about how our Catheter Cabinets came to be and how they can be designed to meet your unique needs.
It all started in a hospital in St. Louis…
The team at the St. Louis hospital was already familiar and in love with the design and functionality of our FlowCARE Nurse Servers and wanted us to create a new hybrid, non-pass-through version. Not only did they want our pull-out/tilt-down basket and shelf system, they wanted to add in pull-out catheter racks that could be placed on adjustable shelves. This spurred the creation of our Catheter Cabinets.
Our Catheter Cabinets can hold items such as:
- Catheters, Balloons and Stents
- Peripherals, Long Sheaths
- IV Fluids, Administration Sets
- Long Stent Boxes
- Procedure Packs
- Tubing and Stopcocks
Catheter Cabinet Configurability
Also known as Configurable Surgical Cabinets, the staff at St. Louis are now able to adjust and change out baskets, shelves, and catheter racks individually as packaging sizes change, similarly to our nurse servers.

New Materials
Although our first version was done in laminate, we have since carried out Catheter Cabinets to other customers in laminate, painted steel, stainless-steel, and 100% solid surface. The stainless-steel cabinets are non-porous, which means that germs, viruses, and bacteria cannot grow within, which can lessen risk for infection.
Final notes
We thank the amazing team at the St. Louis hospital for their ingenuity and unparalleled feedback to help create a solution that solves common problems in the healthcare industry. We truly care about the wants and needs of end-users and will continue to carry out our iterative design process to solutions for current and future customers alike.
