How To Stay Healthy During COVID-19

There is no doubt that COVID-19 has put a strain on everyone. With people having to stay in their homes and preventing them from going to their jobs, the gym or other activities, people have had to develop new routines. Many people are struggling to adapt their lifestyle to the new norm and wondering how they can continue to stay active and healthy while trapped inside their homes and unable to go to the places they are used to. This means more than just having your medicine cabinet storage stocked up.

If this sounds like you and you are trying to find the balance of your healthy active lifestyle from your own home, there are some ways you can modify your typical routines to help you keep up on your health, fitness and overall body and mind health.

At Home Workouts

Many of you may be used to going to the gym or having a small group you work out with. It can be pretty difficult to try to keep up with your fitness routine when you are unable to have access to the tools you need. There is always the option to run or walk outside when it isn’t too hot, but you can always do some other workouts as well! Try to keep it within your abilities, so you aren’t left rummaging through your medicine cabinet storage for Tylenol!

It can be difficult to motivate yourself to get a workout done, but there are actually plenty of at-home workout apps and videos. Many of these are instructor-led, either prerecorded or live. This can be great because it provides someone to show you the exercises and motivate you while you do them. They often require very little, if any, equipment. There are plenty to choose from and many require a subscription or membership.

Meditation

While it is absolutely important to keep your body healthy and in great shape, it is just as important to keep your mind in good health as well. During a stressful and uncertain time like COVID-19, being sure to manage your stress and anxiety is super critical. One way you can begin to do that even from the comfort of your own home is through meditation.

During a large study, 2,466 participants showed signs of significant reduction of anxiety levels after participating in various different mediation strategies. Not only can it reduce anxiety, but it promotes emotional health, improves sleep and decreases blood pressure. If you are looking for an awesome and easy way to improve your mental health during a crazy time that doesn’t require you to leave your home, meditation is an excellent option. We recommend doing some research to determine which methods are best for you!

Healthy Meals

While you are stuck at home, it is the perfect time to try out some cooking you may have been putting on the back burner. Find a way to incorporate some more greens and vegetables into your diet by taking an active role in your food preparation. Oftentimes we find ourselves ordering takeout or purchasing premade meals, which is super helpful, but with the extra time at home, you can start making your own! A great idea is to try taking your favorite dish and tweaking it to make it healthier. Do some research and find a coupleof recipes that look delicious, within your skill set and healthy!

While we all are working towards creating new and different routines for ourselves, be sure to take time for you and to try to be as strong and healthy as possible as well as keeping your medicine cabinet storage stocked up. It may seem like your world is small when it is confined to your home, but finding new ways to keep yourself busy and trying new things is a great way to get through this uncertain time!
